WaterMate control units have a feature to shut off the water pump if the controller thinks the pump is about to fail. A failed mini pump can cause damage to older control units due to excessive current drain (prior to version 8 ... see below).
The pump may start and run for a short while before pulling too much power; it's typically a rusted bearing, and may cause an unusual or erratic running noise.
If you are confident your pump is showing no signs of damage or problems, you can disable the pump fault shutdown in the Device Control Panel.
More recent (v9 control units since late 2023) can deal with failed pumps and you can safely leave the pump fault shutdown disabled.
How do I find out my controller version?
- On the Device Control Panel, the PCB version is shown.
- On the settings/info page for the WaterMate on your web app, the firmware version is prefixed by the control unit version, eg 7-2024030400
