Good for …
Single headed lettuce, leafy greens such as spinach, kale, chard. Plants that have a large leaf mass for a single stem.
How to …
- Soak compressed jiffy pellets in plain water (no nutrients) until they have stopped expanding.
- Sow one or two seeds per pellet.
- Place the pellets in the nursery propagator. Place the propagator in the nursery chamber. Set your desired propagation temperature, and expected germination days (depending on what you have sown). Nursery lights will come on automatically after that period, to ensure your seedlings are not leggy.
- When seedlings are strong enough to take nutrients (they will have a well developed set of true leaves; not their first leaves), place the jiffy pellet into a net cup, and place the net cup in a grow tray space.
- Harvest leaves, fruits etc as needed. When the plant cannot provide any more harvests, remove the net cup with root system, discard the roots in your compost or bin. Wash and reuse the net cup.
